Two people in Texas have been arrested after police reportedly discovered drugs in their vehicle during a routine traffic stop. On Nov. 2, a police officer stopped the couple for speeding on the highway. The officer noticed that the driver acted suspiciously during the stop. When the officer asked if he could search the vehicle, the driver refused to give his consent, which the officer claims made him appear more suspicious.
The officer called a drug-sniffing dog to the scene. When the dog indicated that there were drugs in the vehicle, the officer conducted a search. He reportedly found meth, Xanax, Adderall and a scale to weigh the drugs. Both people in the vehicle were arrested on the scene and taken to jail. The man was charged with drug-related crimes and given a $72,000 bond, which he later paid. The woman received similar charges and a $91,000 bond that she has not paid. A court date has not been announced for the individuals.
What are the benefits of hiring an attorney?
An attorney may help you with a number of charges. If you’ve been charged with shoplifting, robbery, theft, drug possession, drug trafficking, domestic violence, assault, identity theft or another felony crime, your attorney might be able to get your charges and sentencing reduced.
Regardless of the situation, no police officer is above the law. Your attorney may protect you from unlawful searches, illegally seized evidence, false accusations and more. If you’re convicted, your attorney may also help you appeal the ruling or defend you against an unfair punishment. They might also help you get convictions removed from your record after you’ve served your time.
